Write-Off

A transaction to remove from an agency's financial accounting records an account that management has determined to be uncollectible. Writing off the debt for accounting purposes does not discharge the debt. The debt is still owed the State, but is no longer reported on the agency's books as a collectible receivable. Written-off receivables that are eligible for the debt setoff programs must be submitted to the appropriate program.
