The Office of the State Controller (OSC) recently notified you about the Recovery of Overpayments Audit that the Office of the State Controller (OSC) has begun at the direction of the 1998 General Assembly. We have begun meeting with agencies to discuss the audit and claim process and have discovered that some agencies have already destroyed their fiscal year 1995-1996 documentation. Since the audit covers fiscal years 1995-1996, 1996-1997, and 1997-1998 and backup copies will need to be provided to the vendor for all claims, any documentation that is not available will make it more difficult to prove a claim is valid.

If you are one of the agencies who retains only current year plus the previous two years, and are preparing to destroy fiscal year 1995-1996, please retain these records until the audit is complete. The first audit should be completed by March 15, 2000.
