The Office of the State Controller (OSC) will sponsor a Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update seminar for agency fiscal representatives on November 23 and 24, 1998 at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. The registration fee for this two-day course will be $75 per attendee, which includes all course materials, break service, and lunch. To keep registration fees as low as possible, the course fee will be the same whether you plan to attend one day or both days. Due to classroom size, the course will be limited to 200 participants.

The course is designed to provide a practical analysis of current governmental accounting and auditing issues related to the State's financial reporting entity. We anticipate that the seminar will qualify for 16 hours of continuing professional education credit. Topics to be discussed include recent GASB and AICPA pronouncements, the status of outstanding exposure drafts of the GASB, publishing financial statements on the internet, and auditing electronic evidence and workpapers.

This seminar will be presented by Mr. Rhett D. Harrell, CPA, CGFM, who has his own practice in Marietta, Georgia. Mr. Harrell specializes in the government and nonprofit sectors as a practitioner, consultant, instructor, speaker, and author. He provides consulting, workpaper and audit report reviews, and training services to numerous CPA firms and state auditor organizations throughout the country. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Accounting for Continuing Education at the University of North Alabama. Mr. Harrell authors several publications by Harcourt Brace Publishing, including the Single Audit Guide and the Local Government Audit Guide, and is the editor for their monthly newsletter, Government and Nonprofit Report.
