SUBJECT: Payroll System Modification for Multiple Severance Wage Payments
Change in Consolidated Warning Report

The payroll system has been modified to accommodate multiple N.C. Severance Wage Exclusions.  Previously, the payroll system was set to ensure that an agency would only exclude up to a maximum of $35,000 in NC Taxable Wages per year.  The $35,000 Wage Exclusion Restriction has now been removed.  Each termination is considered a separate event for purposes of the $35,000 Severance Wage Exclusion.

Each agency must now monitor its N. C. Severance Wage Payments, to ensure that its Severance Wage Exclusion does not exceed the $35,000 Wage Exclusion per termination.  The reason for the above requirement is that the severance wage field on the year-to-date screen may now include simultaneous Severance Wage payments being made by more than one agency.

As per discussion during the last Payroll Forum, modifications were made to the Consolidated Warning Report.  The employee names are now grouped alphabetically within each cycle.
