Using Inventory Detail Records to Locate Inventory

In order to manage inventory items successfully, the warehouse manager must be able to locate items easily. For example, before a warehouse manager can move an item online or change an item’s inventory status, he or she must first locate the inventory detail record that corresponds to the required item. The Find Inventory by Item (FII) screen is useful for locating inventory detail records in the NCAS. The Find Inventory by Item (FII) screen was presented earlier in this section. In addition, several other screens are available to the warehouse manager to search for inventory detail records on the system.

1. Using the Inventory Detail Browse Selection (IDBS) screen, the warehouse manager can select criteria for controlling the display of inventory detail records on the Inventory Detail Browse (IDBI) screen. The warehouse manager can select criteria for an item such as inventory status, warehouse location, and document number. The Inventory Detail Browse (IDBI) screen displays the inventory detail records that meet the selection criteria entered on the Inventory Detail Browse Selection (IDBS) screen.
2. The Find Inventory by Warehouse Area (FIA) screen displays all of the inventory detail records corresponding to a specific warehouse area. Many different items may appear in a single warehouse or area; the detail records for all of these items appear on the Find Inventory by Area (FIA) screen.

The warehouse manager can select an inventory detail record from any of the above screens and carry it forward to a processing screen in the Inventory module. Transactions involving the inventory detail record can then be processed on these screens.
