The warehouse manager can also use the Direct Transfer (DT) screen to transfer items on an inventory detail record from one warehouse or warehouse area to another. The Direct Transfer (DT) screen has the same basic functionality as the Move Inventory (MI) screen. However, the Direct Transfer (DT) screen is more efficient than the Move Inventory (MI) screen for moving inventory detail records because multiple inventory detail records for an item/warehouse combination can be transferred at one time. Recall that only one inventory detail record may be moved at one time via the Move Inventory (MI) screen.
Although the Direct Transfer (DT) screen is similar to the Move Inventory (MI) screen, the Direct Transfer (DT) screen cannot be used for maintenance functions such as changing an item’s inventory status or receipt date.
Before completing a transfer, the warehouse manager should be sure that the item is linked online to the receiving warehouse. As with moving inventory, the warehouse manager can verify an item/warehouse association on the Item Warehouse Inquiry (IWI) screen. In addition, the warehouse manager should use the Find Inventory by Item (FII) screen or Find Inventory by Area (FIA) screen to locate the inventory detail record before accessing the Direct Transfer (DT) screen.
