Shipping Orders
Once a pick has been posted
to the NCAS, the items picked must be physically shipped to the consumer.
At times, a warehouse manager
might ship more or less of an item than was picked. If an order must be
completed with the quantity of an item shipped differing from the quantity
of the item picked and posted, a shipping exception occurs. There
are three types of shipping exceptions: overshipments, short shipments
and partial shipments.
-
An overshipment occurs
when the quantity of an item shipped is greater than the quantity picked
and posted for the order. An overshipment is considered complete.
-
A short shipment occurs
when the quantity of an item shipped is less than the quantity picked and
posted for the order. A short shipment is also considered complete -- no
more of the item will be shipped to the customer.
-
A partial shipment occurs
when the quantity of an item shipped is less than the quantity picked and
posted for the order. A partial shipment, however, is not considered complete;
the remaining items will be shipped at a later time.
