Before initiating a cycle count, the warehouse manager must determine which inventory items and access paths should be counted. Some agencies will not conduct cycle counts according to predetermined count intervals. Such agencies will not use a specific method for determining which cycle counts to initiate. These agencies will simply initiate and request cycle counts when they believe they are necessary.
In contrast, other agencies will prefer to use an established method for determining which cycle counts to initiate. These agencies can refer to the Cycle Counts Due Reports. Although these reports are not currently located in RMDS, the Office of the State Controller (OSC) will establish these reports in RMDS upon request by an agency.
The Cycle Counts Due Reports identify all of the items or access paths that are due or past due for a cycle count. The due dates that appear on the reports are calculated using the count intervals that are established in the NCAS. The count interval for an item is entered on the Item Warehouse Entry (IWE) screen whereas the count interval for an access path is defined on the Access Path Entry (APE) screen.
