Posting
Usage Orders Automatically
The automatic picking
function can be selected at your warehouse so that picking activity does
not have to be manually posted in the NCAS. Although the function is referred
to as automatic picking, it actually automates the posting activity. The
automatic picking feature can only be used by warehouses that just
fill usage orders. Automatic picking cannot be used by warehouses
that fill internal replenishment orders from other warehouses.
Warehouse managers can select
the automatic picking function on the Warehouse Area Entry (WHAE) or Warehouse
Area Update (WHAU) screen by typing Y for yes in the AUTO PICK field.
This will instruct the NCAS to automatically record an order as picked
complete as soon as inventory is allocated to it. In other words, as soon
as the order is released and allocated during nightly production, the picking
activity is posted and all pick list lines are given a status of C
for picked complete. Once picking activity has been automatically posted,
the automatic picking function automatically closes the pick list.
Note: With the automatic
picking function, pick lists are still generated in RMDS and should be
accessed and printed at your warehouse. Items still must be physically
picked from their storage areas and picked quantities should still be recorded
on the printed pick lists.
After allocation and posting,
the order is then eligible to be recorded as shipped. Items can be manually
recorded as shipped using the Order Shipment (OS) screen, or the shipment
can be recorded automatically via the automatic shipment function described
later in this section. Once all the lines of the usage order have been
manually or automatically recorded as completely shipped, the automatic
picking function also automatically closes the usage order.
Therefore, if the automatic
picking function is selected, you do not need to use the Post Picking Activity
(PPA), Pick List Close Out Request (PLC) and Usage Order Close (UOC) screens
to post picking activity or to close pick lists and usage orders.
If items are physically overpicked
or underpicked when the automatic picking function is selected, an adjustment
must be made so that the NCAS accurately reflects the physical activity.
-
To adjust an underpick, you
must return the quantity that was not physically picked and then deallocate
it from the order. You will learn how to return and deallocate items later
in this section.
-
To adjust an overpick, you have
three options:
-
Create a new usage order to
reflect the difference between the quantity picked and quantity ordered.
This is the preferred method of correction.
-
Return the entire quantity ordered
and deallocate it. Then, update the order using the Usage Order Line Item
Update (UOLU) screen to reflect the actual quantity picked and release
it again.
-
Directly issue the difference
between the quantity picked and the quantity ordered. You will learn how
to issue items directly in the Issuing and Returning Inventory Directly
section of this course.
