Once items have been picked, warehouse staff must return all pick
lists to the warehouse manager so that he or she can record the quantities picked in the NCAS. Recording the picked quantities of an item in the NCAS is referred to as posting the picking activity. As a warehouse manager, you must ensure that inventory is picked correctly and that the picking activity is accurately posted in the NCAS. Warehouse managers can use the Post Picking Activity (PPA) screen to post picked quantities manually.
There are two ways to post picking activity on the Post Picking Activity (PPA) screen: without exceptions and with exceptions.
Posting Picking Activity Without Exceptions
Posting with no exceptions means that all pick list lines have been picked completely. In other words, the quantities of all the items allocated to the order and listed on the pick list are exactly equal to the quantities physically picked. When a pick is posted with no exceptions, each line of the pick list is automatically given a pick status of C for picked complete; therefore, the pick does not have to be posted line-by-line.
Posting Picking Activity with Exceptions
When the quantity of an item physically picked does not equal the quantity allocated to the order line and listed on the pick list, a picking exception occurs.
When picking activity is posted with exceptions, each line of the pick list must be posted separately. Even if only one line of the pick list contains an exception, the pick list must be posted line-by-line. Each line of the pick list shown on the Post Picking Activity (PPA) screen must be given a pick status to indicate how the line was picked. There are three possible pick status values for a pick list line:
Note: An order line
is also picked complete if the quantity of the item actually picked exceeds
the quantity of the item allocated to the order and printed on the pick
list. This is referred to as an overpick. If you post an overpick on the
Post Picking Activity (PPA) screen, you will receive a warning message
alerting you that the quantity posted exceeds the quantity allocated to
the order and listed on the pick list. You can handle this warning in one
of two ways:
Once picking activity is posted in the NCAS, items are automatically moved from their online storage areas to the appropriate online staging areas to reflect the physical movement of inventory. At this time, the items are ready for shipping. In addition, certain item balance updates immediately occur. Other item balances will not be updated until after the order is closed
