Method 2

Document numbers can also be established and attached to items using Method 2. This method is quicker and easier than Method 1. However, it may not always be the best method because it does not allow you to add text to a document number.

Document numbers created using Method 2 are not established on the Document Number Entry (DNE) screen. Therefore, an originating order number is not created for the document number. In addition, document numbers created using Method 2 cannot be viewed or maintained on the Document Number Browse (DNB), Document Number Update (DNU), and the Document Number Delete (DND) screens.

Although document numbers created using Method 2 cannot be viewed on the Document Number Browse (DNB) screen, they are displayed on the Find Inventory by Item (FII) and Find Inventory by Area (FIA) screens. The Find Inventory by Area (FIA) screen is presented later in this section.

Using Method 2, the warehouse manager can establish and attach document numbers using a single screen in the Inventory module. The warehouse manager can use either the Move Inventory (MI) screen or the Change Inventory Status (CISU) screen to create and attach these document numbers. As with Method 1, the Move Inventory (MI) screen can be used to attach a document number to a portion of the items on an inventory detail record. In contrast, the document number must be attached to all of the items on the inventory detail record when the Change Inventory Status (CISU) screen is used.
