Once warehouses and items
have been defined in the NCAS, each item must be linked online to the warehouses
where that item is stocked. Creating an item/warehouse combination allows
a warehouse manager to record the following information about each item
in a warehouse:
| 1. | Establish access paths (paths through a warehouse) to pick items or to perform cycle counts. Access paths increase efficiency in a warehouse. You will learn more about access paths later in this course. |
| 2. | Establish replenishment information for an item. Such replenishment information includes whether the item is purchased or manufactured. |
| 3. | Identify if there is a standard vendor for an item. |
| 4. | Indicate if requisitions for the item are created automatically or manually. |
| 5. | Indicate the stock level or order point at which an item should be replenished. |
| 6. | Indicate the inventory control method for an item. The inventory control method is used by the NCAS to calculate when replenishment of the item should be initiated. Available methods include order point, computed order point, minimum/maximum, and external method. |
