Expansion
The ultimate reason for
generating, storing, and managing data is the creation of information from
such data. In turn, information becomes the basis for rational
decision making. The OSC would benefit from the expanded data warehouse/DSS
for a number of reasons:

To provide greater amounts of
financial information to its customers/users;

To incorporate materials management
financial information into its decision support system;

To reduce much of the expensive
and difficult to maintain mainframe reporting;

To ensure Year 2000 compliancy
in the decision support system;

To be able to store and access
large amounts of historical data and more detailed data;

To enable the agencies to access
information on the data warehouse with a browser, eliminating the need
for more powerful desktop PCs;

To access financial data 24
hours a day, seven days a week; and

To improve access to financial
data by incorporating more intuitive capabilities, reducing training costs.
